John Sylvan Brown
Brown was born 1868 in Nebraska City, Nebraska, was an influential member of the Tryon artist community. Brown would travel to Charleston to paint with his friend and colleague Elizabeth O’Neill Verner. He worked primarily in oil and watercolors painting the surrounding landscape. 4 watercolors by Brown are in the collection of The Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, GA. He is listed in Tryon Artists : 1892-1942. John S. Brown died in North Carolina in 1956.
