Rachel Hartley
Born in 1884 in New York City, Rachel Hartley was the granddaughter of George Inness. She studied at the Art Students League and became a member of the American Federation of Arts, ASL, and the National Arts Club. She was very active in the Pen and Brush club of NYC beginning in 1918 and participated in the Club's 1928 show with three works. She was friendly with Sargent, Whistler and Hassam. An impressionist painter, she also studied art in Paris and the French influence is usually seen in her best works. She traveled extensively throughout Europe. She is listed in Benezit among many other prestigious American publications. Hartley spent part of each year in Crystal, Beach, Florida where she became a founder of the Clearwater Museum, now the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center.She died in 1955. Sold works:
