Elliot Candee Clark
Born in New York in 1893, Eliot Clark studied at the Art Students League with John Twatchtman. He was a member of the National Academy, the American Water Color Society, and Allied Artists of America. He won numerous awards and his work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Academy, and the National Arts Club. He traveled widely in Europe and the United States and after a trip to Tibet he became influenced by Eastern mysticism. and reflected that philosophy in his paintings. He lived in and painted the Blue Ridge mountains from 1922-32 and after living in New York City for a while, returned to Albemarle County, VA. Clark died in 1980.
