Philip Juras

Juras, a native of Augusta, Georgia, born 1967, is a landscape painter. His love for natural landscapes began on the many trips his family made to explore the forests and fields of the Southeast, and continued to grow from many years of travel through Europe and the United States. His work as an artist began in earnest while Philip was studying in Cortona, Italy. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia in 1990, he continued to travel frequently, painting the landscapes of the places he visited, including England, Germany, India, and the western U.S. He earned a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia in 1997, writing his thesis on the pre-settlement savannahs that once flourished across the southeastern piedmont. After working two years in the landscape architecture profession in Alexandria, Virginia, Philip returned to Athens, Georgia in 2000 to devote himself more fully to painting. The majority of his current work explores southeastern landscapes which have remained in a natural state, although he still paints the landscapes of his foreign travel. Juras's work is held in private collections in the U.S., Germany and India, and has been exhibited in one- and two- person shows and juried group exhibitions.
